ZHAO Jianhua is a professor , and an Executive Director of the Center of Studies for Future Education (CSFE), SUSTech. He is a Senior Expert, UNESCO Centre for Higher Education Innovation (ICHEI). He received his first PhD in Educational Technology from South China Normal University in China in 2002, and the second Ph.D. in Educational Studies from the University of Sheffield in UK in 2005. He was a PhD Fellow at the United Nations University, Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU/IAS) and a Visiting Scholar at Tokyo Institute of Technology (TIT) in Japan from 2000 to 2001. He was a Research Fellow in the Department of Education, Lancaster University, UK from 2005 to 2007. He was selected as a Provincial-level Training Object of the "10000" talent training project in Guangdong Province in 2010.
He served as different roles in lots of academic societies or associations, such as a member of the Expert Advisory Group on Online Teaching of International Platform and Curriculum Construction, the Department of Higher Education of Ministry of Education; a member of the Steering Committee of Online Open Courses for Undergraduates in the Colleges and Universities in Guangdong Province; vice chairman of the Educational Technology Professional Committee of Higher Education Association in Guangdong; a member of the Guangdong Overseas Students Association and the Guangdong European and American Returned Scholars Association; an executive member of the Shenzhen Education Society; an executive member of the Higher Education Professional Committee of the Shenzhen Education Society, and a vice chairman of ICT in Education and Artificial Intelligence Professional Committee of Shenzhen Education Society. He has been serving as various journal editorial board members, e.g. Journal of Lifelong Learning, Journal of Computers in Education, the International Journal of Social Media and Interactive Learning Environments, Journal of Technology Enhanced Learning, Open Education Research, and Open Learning Research. He has undertaken more than 40 international and domestic research projects at or above the provincial and ministerial levels, and published more than 100 papers.Computer-based Education, a course he taught has been awarded as a "National Bilingual Demonstration Course" and "Guangdong Provincial Excellent Course" in 2008. He won the second prize of the National Outstanding Teaching Achievement Award in September 2014.
His research areas include future education, technology supported teaching and learning, learning sciences and technology, teacher professional development, and ICT in education.
