President Chen Shiyi Research and Guidance Work in Higher Education Center
On the afternoon of April 23, 2018, President Chen came to CHER (Centre for Higher Education Research) to conduct investigation, together with LI Fengliang, Vice-Chairperson of Southern University of Science and Technology (hereafter “SUSTech”), Vice-President TANG Tao, Vice-President and Director of General Affairs LU Chun, among others. Professor Han, deputy director of CHER reported the conditions of the Centre and its development plan in the near future. Having the Centre’s six functions in mind, namely teaching, research, the integration of ICT with teaching, course design, talents cultivation and internationalization, Professor Han expected the Centre to be the think-tank in the field of higher education that enjoys strong research capability, high academic levels and great influence at both home and abroad. In addition, Professor Li, director of CHER briefed the performance of International Cnetre for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO (hereafter “International Centre for Higher Education Innovation”) and its major events to be held in 2018. Then, President Chen pointed out that CHER should “think big while getting down to earth.” At present, much work remains to be done. He hoped that the Centre can deliver high-level research, and at the same time seize the “time and space” opportunities of research on humanities and social sciences in order to let the Centre’s voice to be heard by more people. As for International Centre for Higher Education Innovation, President Chen thought its establishment in the university was no easy and will be beneficial to the development of SUSTech. He looks forward to witnessing more positive effects on the university’s internationalization.
