Inauguration Ceremony of MOOC Centre at SUSTech

On 17th May, 2018, MOOC Centre was officially opened and operated at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). TANG Tao, Vice President of the university, LI Ming, the director of Centre for Higher Education Research, HUANG Kefu, the vice provost and head of Office of Teaching Affairs, CHENG Xin, the director of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, WU Yongbo, the deputy director of the Department of Mechanical and Engineering, and Professor YU Yajun and Professor CHEN Rui from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering were present at the event with HAN Wei, the director of Residential College in the chair. Vice President TANG Tao shared his expectations for the MOOC Centre with the audience, saying that SUSTech should make use of the Centre’s resources to transform its traditional teaching methods so as to further improve the effectiveness and efficiency of teaching and learning. Besides, he said the university should speed up its policy-making process to support and reward those professors who actively teach MOOCs. The courses made should also be sent to compete for national-level MOOCs. Then, LI Ming, the director of Centre for Higher Education Research briefed the making of MOOCs at SUSTech, and called for more professors to participate in it to promote the development of MOOCs at the university. HUANG Kefu, the vice provost of the university praised the current online courses made by the Centre. He hoped more general courses could be made for freshmen to extend the Centre’s influence.

On behalf of the first batch of professors making MOOCs, Professor Cheng Xin from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering thought that SUSTech had made a lot of efforts to combine higher education with today’s communication technologies, and the online courses would offer greatly help for students to preview and review classes as well as to overcome difficulties in learning.
