Dr. Ma is the Visiting Associate Professor at the Centre for Higher Education Research, Southern University of Science and Technology (CHER/SUSTech). In 2015, she got her PhD in Higher Education/Comparative and International Education from the Faculty of Education, the University of Hong Kong (HKU). Her master’s and bachelor’s degrees were received respectively from Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto (OISE/UT) in 2007, and School of International Studies, Peking University (SIS/PKU) in 2003. Before perusing th PhD degree, she worked as a UN regular staff in United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (UNESCAP) from 2007 to 2010. And she worked for the Education Sector of UNESCO Beijing Office from 2003 to 2005. Moreover, she has working and research experience as an Analyst of Education Section of OECD, Researcher of ActionAid International, Chief Editor of China Education and Research Network, and Reporter of China Education Daily.
